Morning Joe gets Trump wrong again on war

Morning Joe Scarborough declared today that President Donald John Trump wants war with Iran.

In 2017, Scarborough declared that President Donald John Trump wants war with North Korea.

Some people never learn.

Breitbart News reported, "Scarborough claimed Trump and National Security Advisor John Bolton were 'hell-bent on provoking a war with Iran.'"

Provoking a war? Doesn't that mean Scarborough will blame President Trump if Iran starts a war?

Scarborough also said, "it’s also disturbing … that the president of the United States would suggest on national television that the intel chiefs that CIA director was suggesting, that the people running Iran were like kindergartners. Her response to the question of were they abiding by the treaty was simple and straightforward, or the agreement, and the answer was, ‘Yes, they were.’ That was it."

You may recall that 40 years ago our crack CIA team in Iran totally missed the Iranian Revolution to the point where Iran took 51 American hostages.

That was when we had an embassy in Iran open to make spying easier.

The CIA miss cost Jimmy Carter any hope of a second term. President Trump would not deserve a second term if he did not question the CIA's assessment.

However, my larger point is that Donald Trump is the peace-and-prosperity candidate in the tradition of Calvin Coolidge and other Republican presidents.

Scarborough gets this wrong repeatedly.

He said, "It really does seem like a larger context here is that Donald Trump and John Bolton want to invade Iran. They want to start a war with Iran and they’re very angry that his intel chiefs aren’t giving him the excuse, which makes it very ironic that he brings up WMDs and Iraq because there you have the intel chiefs saying, ‘Yes, go ahead. They have weapons of mass destruction.’ Now you have the intel chiefs saying, ‘Hold back.’ And yet this president and John Bolton seem hell-bent on provoking a war with Iran."

Once again, the CIA was wrong about WMD. Scarborough actually was making President Trump's case for questioning the validity of intelligence reports.

But Scarborough wants President Trump to be a warmonger because it fits his liberal stereotype of warmongering Republicans.

On September 22, 2017, News Busters reported, "On Friday’s Morning Joe, the show’s panel reacted to the latest developments in the heated standoff between North Korea and the United States with exasperation, fear, and loathing, but not just at Kim Jong-un. In fact, Trump was the target of the greater wrath and consternation of the panel because he once again said mean things about North Korea’s ‘Dear Leader’ and his devil’s den of a country."

Less than a year later, President Trump and Chairman Kim met and signed a de-nuking deal.

Donald Trump is committed to de-nuking the world. Iran is next. That does not mean war or an invasion.

The reason for his commitment is that early on his late uncle -- a renowned MIT physics professor -- explained the danger to him.

Donald Trump told this story 30 years ago, and has repeated it in interviews many times over the years. A live intern would have found this in research for Scarborough.

Sigh.
